1. at McDonalds in Woodstock*
crazy lady: i want this hamburger WELL done.
counter girl: uh, ok.
crazy lady: you aren't listening to me. well done. WELL DONE!
counter girl (smothering a snicker): ok, well, don't worry, it will be cooked.
crazy lady: I WANT IT WELL DONE! WEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEELL DOOOOOOOOOOOOONE.
once crazy lady leaves...
me: whoa.
counter girl: this isn't the fucking keg.
2. in the kitchen last night

mom: i just opened the bag 2 seconds ago.
me: ok, but, like... how OLD is it? didn't i buy that before i went to kitchener last week?
mom (exasperated): it's fine! it was in a sealed bag! it's like i just opened a new cow!
* i have no good justification for entering this establishment, i admit it.

those fools are going to award me a law degree! muhahahahaaaa.
i was pretty sure all would be well with my marks, but, you never know. and one course failure would have meant:
a) no graduation this spring
b) some fancy negotiating with the Law Society to still allow me to complete the licensing process on time.
but nono, i don't need to worry about that crap now, because I'M IN! WHEEEE!
this degree was painful. i did not like law school, and my dislike has zero to do with the hard work and dedication one supposedly needs to pass (note: getting into law school really is the hardest part of law school). i just didn't like the general environment, and the fact that admin was the one pushing for competitiveness--not a place pushing well-being and balanced lifestyle. what--you have friends? other interests besides law? a job? a life? THEN MAYBE LAW SCHOOL IS NOT FOR YOU! or so they would hint. but, haha! i watched even more tv in law school than during my undergrad degree! i win!!!
the bitterness is leaving my system. my articling gig is the height of awesomeness. i have a new car. i only have to be in delhi until aug. 1st. the mader is funding a trip to ireland for two weeks. i am rekindling friendships from elementary and highschool. things are looking decidedly uncrappy right now!
and, i'm almost done volume 1 of bar ad studying. it took a lot out of me, but far less than volume 3 will take. f#(*$% tax law!

seriously, wtf.
so i'm going for a tiny evening stroll--tiny, as it is a study break, and evening because i become agoraphobic when i come home and damn it if i'm going to let a neighbour identify me out of my cloak of darkness.
mid-may is a lovely time to go for an evening stroll, because after the cars are parked and business has ceased and most children have stopped hollering, one can enjoy the peace and quiet, relative warmth, and glorious smells of the flowers and trees being in bloom. without being seen by neighours, neighbours who have the power to melt you with their red laser beam eyes. but i digress.
i was in a happy place, walking and sniffing away at budding lilac trees, when i stop short in front of the tobacco auction warehouse. i walk past this thing and/or drive past it every day; it's at the end of my avenue. at 11pm, it should be quiet and dark. nothing goes on there at night. but tonight, tonight it is lit up, taped off, and surrounded by a small troupe of soldiers WITH BIG GUNS. i see no fire, there is no noise, but activity is going on in the building and from the open door i can see trucks rolling around in there. i ask you, wtf???
shrugging off the thought that terrorists have for whatever reason infiltrated the tobacco warehouse, i continue on my walk, less merrily. i start to turn around the corner by the church when at the end of northern ave., wtf! more army trucks! more folks in camo and holding big guns! no noise! no sense of urgency!
i don't know what's going on around here. if this was some kind of planned training scenario, wherein the army is allowed to come in and run some practice whatevers, you think that the neighbours would be notified LEST THEY WALK OUT THE DOOR AT 11PM AND ARE SCARED CRAPLESS. alternatively, if the warehouse is about to blow up, could i please have some sort of signal or notification? maybe some shouting indicating that i should hop in the car and gun it to simcoe or t-burg?
anyway, whatever. the flowers smelled nice.

Facebook is (finally!) getting old.
maybe now i can settle down and start studying for the exams which will determine whether the rest of my life is successful oh my god.
facebook was a delicious addiction for the last week, and proved to be quite valuable in what has been a rather lonely little period of my life. i got in touch with TONS of friends i hadn't heard from in awhile and had been missing, friends becoming doctors in Chicago and friends studying ancient languages at Yale and friends who have amazing careers: oncology nursing, paramedic, social worker at the Children's Aid Society, accountant, chemical engineer, cancer researcher, medical student in Michigan, and the list goes on. and then i realized, damn, i have really smart and interesting friends! why do i not keep in touch more often???!!!
having the car helps. my friends do not live in this town, and having gone to high school in B-dot, it's nice to be able to drive to see my friends there. and i'm a going to B-dot this saturday! tomorrow i go to the movies with my best friend from kindergarten, and on sunday i'm going to a bbq with my pseudo Woodstockian family.
and then, my family finally gets home and i will spend the rest of the summer whining about how annoying they are on my blog. but for right now, i kind of miss them and their annoying ways.

Facebook has consumed me.
so i caved, alright? i sold out, happy!?!?! geez. last night i was lonely and bored, so i sold my soul to the internet for a brief glance down memory lane. well, i guess it wasn't so brief, considering i stayed up the entire night and was horrified to witness a gigantic flaming ball of gas crest over the horizen this moring just before 7am. i do not do sunrises. i do moonrises. also, moonwalking. to Thriller.
it was interesting to take a peek into the lives of people i have not heard from or seen in years, and in a way, it felt like i had really aged. it also felt slightly invasive, as if i didn't have a right to take these peeks, although one must have permission to glance at another's profile.
sometimes i wonder whether some people are just meant to walk into your life and stay for awhile, and then slip out the back door as quietly as they came in. i feel like facebook messes up this system--it brings people back together who may have had a very good reason for drifting apart. you get temporarily caught up in the novelty of a reunion, and then after a bit of chatting, you think to yourself: " oh yeah, now i remember why i totally hate you!".

feeling a bit underwhelmed
as you can see, i'm not exactly living in the mecca of culture here:

but sometimes (for a brief while, anyway) it's nice not to need the brain switched into high gear.
last night i discussed this particular 'exhibit' via msn with an old friend who grew up in a neighbouring town. we then proceeded to create on the spot recipes for squirrel--i think my recipe included bacon grease and corn syrup, both of which are plentiful around these parts. as plentiful as spitoons and toothless old women oozing moral superiority.
god bless msn; i don't know how i would live here without the internet. another friend msn'd me tonight and asked me where one might happen to find a short Catholic school girl skirt, lol. i shudder to think of the random conversations i would be detached from without my laptop and ye sympatico wireless.
